ABOUT PASS PLUS
PASS PLUS is a training scheme for new drivers. Its aim is to improve your driving skills and make you a safer driver. It can also lead to insurance discounts.
The scheme has been designed by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), with the help of the motor insurance and driving instruction industries, to develop your skills and knowledge in areas where you may have limited experience.
As an indicator of its effectiveness, a previous survey of L test candidates carried out by ORC International showed that of those who had taken Pass Plus:
- 93% felt more confident on the road
- 89% considered that their driving skills had improved as a result of taking the course.
PASS PLUS will benefit you by

PASS PLUS consists of a minimum of
six hours’
training and the emphasis is on developing your practical driving skills.

AFTER PASS PLUS
When you successfully complete PASS PLUS you will have demonstrated that you
- have developed your existing skills
- have acquired new skills and knowledge
- know how to anticipate, plan for and deal withhazards safely
- understand how you can reduce the risk of having aroad accident
- can maintain a courteous and attitude to other roadusers
At this point, you and your instructor sign your Training Report Form. Once it is completed your instructor will then send the form to DVSA.
DVSA will then send you a PASS PLUS Certificate of Completion showing that you have successfully completed the course.
